Breast Cancer

  • Among the most common cancers in India, breast cancer kills one of every two women it afflicts in the country
  • Breast cancer is more likely to occur as a woman ages.
  • Breast cancer rarely occurs in men. Because men with breast cancer usually have a lump that can be felt easily. Screening tests are not likely to be helpful in men.
  • Breast cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the breast.

Symptoms/Warning Signs

  • New lump in the breast or underarm (armpit).
  • Sudden change in size of pre-existing lump in the breast or underarm (armpit).
  • Thickening or swelling of part of the breast.
  • Irritation or dimpling of breast skin.
  • Redness or flaky skin in the nipple area or the breast.
  • Pulling in of the nipple or pain in the nipple area.
  • Nipple discharge other than breast milk, including blood.
  • Any change in the size or the shape of the breast.
  • Pain in any area of the breast.
